Whether at home or in business, relationships are the backbone of our lives. For all practical purposes, they are the reason we get up every morning…and sometimes…the reason we don’t want to.
The older I get the more I understand what lies at the core of healthy relationships is the practice of meeting others halfway. Anything more or less is either unhealthy or not a relationship at all.
If you cannot turn around without hearing or seeing an ad from a certain business to the point that you are ready to scream…that would be characterized as an unhealthy relationship. Here’s an example from a recent discussion I had, a real estate agent might over-post properties on his/her Facebook page until you are forced to delete or hide them.
To the other extreme, a friend of mine said at lunch yesterday there are businesses in his area going out-of-business because they never advertised at all. If a business never reaches out, they are not in a relationship with their potential customers. They are simply a wallflower.
The goal is for your business to walk to the middle of the road to greet passing clients and customers. Don’t mow them down or expect them to come to you. Meet them halfway.
